  • Croatia - Independence
  • Croatia declared its independence on 25 June 1991 after its first multiparty elections but it was not recognised by the Yugoslav federal government or Croatia’s Serb minority and war began. The country was internationally recognised on 15 January 1992.

  • Croatia - Siege of Dubrovnik
  • Serbian forces besieged Dubrovnik from October 1991 to May 1992 and two-thirds of the houses in the old section of the city were damaged by bombing and explosions. The Red Cross said 114 civilians were killed.
