  • Vietnam - 1959-75: War
  • The Vietnam war was between the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (RDVN — North Vietnam) and the Republic of Vietnam (RVN — South Vietnam). It began as a civil war over whether to keep the country divided or to united it under the northern regime. From 1964, China and the Soviet Union backed the north and the US supported the south by sending troops. The war ended, after heavy casualties, with the north’s victory and the signing of a peace agreement in Paris in 1973. But some fighting continued and North Vietnamese troops captured Saigon in 1975. Vietnam then became united as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

  • Vietnam - Viet Cong
  • The National Liberation Front (Viet Cong) was a guerrilla movement fighting in South Vietnam for the south’s reunification with the north during the Vietnam war.
