Killed in an accident during a US army exercise in the Kuwaiti desert on 21 December, eight kilometres from the Iraqi border. He tried to pull back his cameraman who he thought was dangerously close to a tank which was raising a big cloud of sand. He disappeared from view and when the sand cleared, he was seen impaled on barbed wire. He died next day.
