Shot and stabbed by two men near the cultural centre in the Albanian-majority town of Vucitrn (30 km from Pristina). He died in hospital. Colleagues said articles he had written accusing Serbs of war crimes in Kosovo may have caused his death, but it may also have been due to his involvement in local politics.

  • Kosovo - Situation today
  • The Serbian province has been ruled by the United Nations since 1999. Its final status is still uncertain, which seriously hampers political development and creates social tension. Hatred between the two ethnic communities is still strong. Local institutions are virtually all controlled by Albanians and the Serbian government has no authority in the province, which is still officially part of Serbia.

  • Kosovo Social Democratic Party candidate in Vucitrn municipal elections.
Reported on Serbian war crimes in Kosovo.
    Correspondent in Vucitrn for Rilindja.
Begins working for Rilindja, Kosovo’s oldest Albanian-language daily.
