Claude Verlon, radio technician for RFI was conducting a report in Kidal, North Mali, when she was killed with his colleague, the journalist Ghislaine Dupont. Both of them were kidnapped by armed men on November 2nd in front of the house of the representative of the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad whom they had just interviewed. They were shot dead a few hours later and their bodies abandoned in the desert. On November 6th, AQMI claimed the killing of the two journalists. Still doubts remain about the responsible party for their death. An investigation has been opened to elucidate the causes of their deaths.
